A little goes a long way. Give the equivalent of what you would spend on lunch and help a needy child.
Share-A-Meal (SAM) is MILK's annual fund-raising effort that culminates on every 7th day of the Lunar New Year (traditionally known as "everybody's birthday"). On this day (13th February 2008) and during the preceding months, we encourage everyone to "share a meal" with the less privileged by simply giving the cash value of their meal on that day.. SAM reminds us that we all have a shared responsibility to help the disadvantaged and disabled.
Funds raised from Share-A-Meal will enable these children to move beyond their difficulties and give them opportunities which they would otherwise not have.
Please join us to Share-A-Meal today by:
Organising a get-together with your friends and family over the festive periods, encouraging everyone to Share-A-Meal and donating the proceeds
Encouraging the staff of your company to Share-A-Meal and the corporate may choose to match the staff donations $ for $
Donating what you would spend on a meal
Share A Meal 2009
On 1st February, 59 schools and 8 corporates came together to ‘share a meal’ with the disadvantaged children at MILK by donating what they would spend for one lunch into our donation tins.
We are privileged to have the increased support of the Singapore Police Force with 6 of their Land Divisions helping to distributing almost 1,400 tins island wide. This massive effort was once again spearheaded by the Ang Mo Kio Police Division who counts 2009 as their 5th year of involvement. With the kind support from partners and donors, a total of $66,771.58 was raised.
As with each year, the funds raised will be designated for the Compassion Fund, a fund which schools can access for students who may be in crisis as a result of sudden death of a breadwinner, a sudden illness or accident in the family.

Share-A-Meal 2008
13 February 2008 was the day we asked donors to “share a meal” with the less privileged - to donate a sum equivalent to what they would spend for one lunch. With the voluntary support 5 Land Divisions of the Singapore Police Force spearheaded by the Ang Mo Kio Police Division, delivery of more than 2,000 donation tins to 192 schools and 27 corporates were coordinated with precision and more than $118,000 was raised.

Share-A-Meal 2007
94 schools, 21 PCF's and kindergartens and 18 corporates participated in Share-A-Meal 2007 on 24th February and raised more than $100,000 (the audited financial statement for the project can be found HERE)! We were supported by over 100 volunteers from the Singapore Police Force and Police Training Command in planning and co-ordinating the efforts. A big thank you to all who joined us during the joyous reunions and feasting of the Chinese New Year to remember and support the disadvantaged children among us who are caught in a vicious cycle of difficult family circumstances.
All people did was to donate as much as one would spend on a meal, and that will go a long way in making a difference to the disadvantaged children. With the support from many more corporates, donation tins were also placed at the following outlets and our friendly counter staff were met with generous responses from the public:
Transitlink counters at NEL MRT stations and SBS Bus Interchanges.
NTUC Fairprice outlets (select outlets)
Novena retail stores
IKEA (Tampines & Alexandra)
Guess & Gao retail stores
Liquid Kitchen and Eski bar
Made in China Restaurant, Olive Restaurant, Pier 11 & RainTree Day Spa
YES Supermarket
The funds raised from the Share-A-Meal make up the Compassion Fund, administered by MILK to help students whose families are in crisis as a result of a recent death of a breadwinner, a sudden illness or accident in the family. It aims to give early and timely assistance to prevent the students' families from spiralling into poverty or developing other chronic family problems. Since its launch in April 2006, we are happy that around 63 students and their families have benefited from the Compassion Fund.
It doesn't take a lot to give another person a chance at an education, so share-a-meal today!
Share-A-Meal 2006
96 schools and 18 companies came forward to Share A Meal on 4 February 2006 and raised more than $113,000; thank you! Corporate and school volunteers went the extra mile for the needy children and contributed their time and efforts to ensure the success of the event; student volunteers also canvassed for donations along the North-East Line stations and SBS Transit Bus Interchanges and were met with generous responses from members of the public.
The money raised from Share A Meal this year has been set aside in a central pool called the Compassion Fund, which was launched in April 2006.
The Compassion Fund is a crisis response fund set up for needy students from low-income families which may be in crisis as a result of the death of a breadwinner, a sudden illness or accident in the family. It aims to give early or timely assistance so as to PREVENT the crisis from causing the students’ families to spiral into poverty or other chronic family problems. It provides immediate assistance at the point of crisis to allow the family, time during the interim, to develop longer term solutions. It is the intent of the Compassion Fund to complement and not replace existing assistance schemes.
