MILK Mentoring Programme

Written by Shanice Er, MILK ITE Scholar and recent graduate from ITE College West. Shanice is currently collaborating with MILK Fund, taking on various projects while she awaits the commencement of her education at Polytechnic.

To start the year, we held our 2nd MILK Mentoring session on 20th January 2024 where our mentees and mentors delved into discussions on goals, challenges, and aspirations. I have come to learn that mentoring is more than just learning from shared insights; it is about fostering personal and professional growth, igniting passion, and instilling a sense of confidence as we face various milestones in our life.

The MILK Mentoring programme was re-initiated in December 2023 in collaboration with Mentoring SG and Voices of Asia. Our goal was to create a practical and useful platform where our MILK Scholars and mentors can engage in meaningful learning conversations. Often, you will hear the unraveling of the layers of our student’s goals, challenges, and aspirations. Our time together as a community marked the continuation of a journey of collaboration, mutual learning, and shared aspirations.

I felt that MILK’s mentoring programme could help benefit me and help me improve myself. I hope that I can further improve myself because I really know what I want and I hope my mentors will help me to achieve my goals.

Our MILK mentoring sessions aim to nurture strong mentor-mentee relationships, creating a supportive system where individuals can flourish. Through open dialogue, shared experiences, and a commitment to mutual support, our mentoring initiative is laying the groundwork for a community of learners who are not only academically empowered but also equipped with the resilience and confidence to navigate the challenges that lie ahead.

I am an enthusiastic person who wants to learn more, one who is able to grasp knowledge by learning from others. I hope to make new friends and gain knowledge from the different mentors. Through this mentoring programme, I get to share my knowledge with people from all walks of life. It has benefitted me in terms of my self-development and I am very excited for the upcoming sessions.

As we look back on this session, we are excited about how it has built strong connections and made everyone feel supported. The MILK Mentoring programme is becoming like a support system for all of us, helping us learn and grow together. We are ready for a year full of learning, growing, and supporting each other on this journey toward success!

Growing up as the eldest child, I did not have an older figure in my life. I was fortunate enough to be exposed to a few mentors around me. While I’m standing on the shoulders of giants, I really hope to be of service the community and to people if I’m able to really be able to play a positive part in anyone’s life, I think that would make life really meaningful in giving back in whatever way I can.
