Starting a new job is always a whirlwind, and my first month at MILK has been no different. As this is my first full-time role, the past month has been a mix of learning and growing. Here is a look at what I have experienced and the challenges I have tackled so far.

Memories and Moments

From reaching out to students for our programme, sending follow-up emails, and coordinating with food caterers, to handling messages on email and WhatsApp, I have learned that working with external partners is more than just a skill, it is about building connections.

In July 2024, I took part in my first MILK Fund Mentoring Event, helping out with registration and food catering, which provided valuable hands-on experience.

Offline networking felt like navigating a maze at first. I often felt unsure and awkward, but I learned that being myself is the best way to connect with others. With time, stepping out of my comfort zone became easier.

Online interactions were another challenge. Crafting the appropriate email or message felt tricky, and I worried about coming off as rude or demanding. Over time, I realized that clear and respectful communication is more important than perfection. This shift in perspective helped me approach these interactions with more confidence.

Insights and Learning

August 2024, We had our first makeup session for the ITE Onboarding, where we took a picture together to celebrate the acceptance of our new MILK Scholar.

Reflecting on these experiences, I see that even small moments are significant. As I keep learning and growing, I’m finding my voice and becoming more comfortable with myself. Networking is about discovering new things about others and myself, and it is a mix of patience and practice. These authentic interactions turn networking from just professional encounters into meaningful connections.

I have had the chance to be creative, especially in reviewing new programs and creating social media content. The freedom to explore and implement my ideas has been a highlight of my time here.

I have become more proactive in asking questions and seeking information. Initially, this was stressful, especially if I worried about bothering busy colleagues. Over time, I started setting clear goals and using a checklist to stay organized. This approach has made me more focused and efficient. My time at MILK has been a great learning experience, and I’ve gained a lot of knowledge.

Experience and Exposure

Overall, I have learned a lot and gained valuable experience in just my first month at MILK. It has been eye-opening, and I’m excited to continue learning and contributing meaningfully to the team.
